Christina West is an artist who has inspired me. The way that she thinks about materiality and display intrigue the viewer and often warrants for a deeper conversation. This piece in particular was about children’s dolls and how stiff and expressionless they even though they are meant to spring about curiosity within a child whom is playing with the object. She uses porcelain for the limbs and face and then a soft cloth and stuffing just like in a real doll. She has made me think about the materials within my own work and how I could better use them to get my point across to my audience.
